Long-established Monkfish Hotpot Restaurant! Inheriting tradition and the heart of Monkfish cuisine!
In 1830, at the end of the Edo period, Shozo Tachikawa, the first generation, started a restaurant called "Ise-sho", and Genshiro Tachikawa II changed the name of the restaurant to "Ise-gen", combining "Ise" of "Ise-sho" and "Gen" of "Genshiro", The name was changed to "Isegen. Later, Monkfish hot pot became popular, and the restaurant specialized in Monkfish dishes during the Taisho era (1912-1926) when Masazo Tachikawa became the fourth generation of the restaurant's owner.
The case next to the entrance has been used as a refrigerator since those days, and real Monkfish is still hung there.

昔(もう30年40年も前だったか)吉原の帰り笑、道に迷って(そういう名店だとは知らずに)ついつい入っちまったことがある。吉原のあたりって近くに電車とか通ってなくて(当時スマホもないから)最寄りの駅に行こうにもどっちに歩いていいかわからなくなってふらついてたら、とんでもなく古めかしい天ぷら屋を見つけた。昼飯も食ってなかったし「とりあえずここでメシでも食うか」と思って(こんな名店だとも知らずに)店に入った。 壁に掲示してあるメニューを見たら一番安い天丼で(当時)1800円もした。「高いところに入っちまった」と思ったが、仕方なくその一番安いスタンダードな天丼を注文した。5~6分待っただろうか、頼んだ天丼がやってきた。丼のかぶせ蓋からはみ出すくらいデカい海老と穴子と、キスか何かの天ぷらが載っている。とにかく見た目がゴージャス。ネタがデカいのでほおばるみてえにして食う。天ぷらといってもぜんぜん嫌な油っこさはない。 何て言ったらいいんだろう。高級とかそういう感じではない。 「この天丼はウマいかそうでないか」みたいなそういう安い判定すらする気が失せる笑。 お客の知性や感性よりはるかに次元の高い感覚一切を全部丼に凝縮したような、そんな食い物だった。 「食い物の真実の一つに出会える」そういう食い物だとそう感じた。
ふざけたおっさんだと思ってましたが、もの凄く真面目なしっかりとした方だったのですね。 近いうちにお店に行ってみたいです。
一つ一つの道具は使い込んでるのにとても清潔な厨房。こういうお店の仕事は信頼できる。
